As part of the OFF programme of PFF 15, a workshop on experimental video forms inspired by the work of Iranian-British director Maryam Tafakory was held. The workshop took place one day before the screening of four of Tafakory’s short films, followed by a video conversation with the artist. It focused on Tafakory’s methodological approach and her cinematic practice of exploring sensuality and the unspoken in Iranian film. Participants had the opportunity to work with collage techniques and the reorganization of existing visual archives to create new relationships, meanings, and narratives.
Covered topics included:
– how censorship in Iranian cinema encourages alternative visual and narrative strategies;
– how film collage can reinterpret existing images and create new connections;
– the use of poetry and voice recordings as tools for expressing suppressed emotions.
