CINEMATHEQUE SCREENING & WORKSHOP “FILMOSOPHY WITH CHILDREN”
with Martin Popovski, PhD

Within the segment called “Phil(m)osophy with children”, the Philosophical Film Festival organized a philosophical experience for the youngest audience this year as well. This time, the Cinematheque hosted third-grade children from “Jan Amos Comenius” Elementary School who participated in the workshop entitled “Why am I me?”. By showing short philosophically provocative videos, children were encouraged to share their authentic thoughts and discuss them, while mastering the basic rules of philosophical discussion, which – in addition to resulting in the development of critical and creative thinking, imagination, and curiosity, also improve social skills, such as mutual respect and understanding, cooperation, and empathy. The philosophical discussion culminated in the creation of a list of special ingredients – or “spices” (with precisely determined amounts of each of these ingredients) – that make me who I am and not someone else. This list was compiled solely from the authentic ideas and thoughts of the children, without being directed in any way or having certain points of view or attitudes imposed on them. The workshop on philosophy with children was held on May 22 and was led by Dr. Martin Popovski.
